Hohoho!!! Guess what? Yes, you are right, the festive time is around the corner, and as every year the Holidays will bring our beloved friends and family to stay in our homes. Every year our guest room becomes their home for a few days, So let's talk about how we can make them feel welcome and comfortable. If you were to ask me, I would say that the secret is in the small details that make a huge difference but don't break the bank,

Let me tell you how I revamped my guest bedroom for my friends Sandra and Victor when they stayed with us last Christmas.

I have known Sandra and Victor for most of my life, but now we live far away from each other, we see each other a couple of times a year, and when we meet, we make it very special. Sandra and Victor love traveling around the world and, through them sharing their experiences with me, I realize that the key part of their enjoyment is always to have a nice hotel room waiting for them after a long and exhausting journey.

I always make sure they will find the same hotel room experience when they arrive at my home. Don't we all love that feeling when we walk into the hotel room? Let me share with you the changes I made to my guest room for Sandra and Victor's stay to have that hotel experience over the holiday period.

When they arrived, they just wanted to relax before joining the rest of the family and friends for dinner. They normally stay a few nights so I wanted them to feel welcomed, special, and in the mood for celebration.

When Sandra and Victor walk into the room, the first thing they see is the fresh sheets and an array of holiday pillows for them to sink into, the soft textiles and beautiful colors.

I love to decorate the room with beautiful textiles that are cohesive with the room, giving you an example, in a blue color scheme, I would choose some whites and silver Christmas pillows. I love a bit of sparkle.

I would place a pile of brand new towels on the bed, ready for them to shower before they come down for dinner, the hand towels could have the Christmas theme just to add a little touch.

The smell is extremely important in a hotel room, so I incorporate this into my home, I like beautiful scents that are subtle and don't overpower the room. The best way is to add the hotel smell is with a couple of scented candles, fragrance sticks, or linen spray, I love Zara as they have a great selection that smells so good.

Homemade potpourri made from dried oranges, cinnamon sticks and anise stars makes a real smell of Christmas to the bathroom decorated in a bowl or glass vase.

I love to buy them a small gift and lay it on the bed, beautifully wrapped to welcome them and make them feel special with a small card attached. Leave a tray with a couple of bottles of water, with some chocolates or cookies to help them settle into the room and feel that five-star hotel experience.

The closet left empty with plenty of space, ample hangers for them to put away their clothes, and room for the suitcases to be put away.

I placed an iron with a small fold-away ironing board in case their clothes were creased.

The lighting is my favorite way to create the ambiance in the room, making it feel warm and inviting with soft bulbs and bright lighting in the bathroom. I added a few Holiday lights in a soft white, so it looked pretty for the time of year.

I hung a Christmas wreath and a few touches of décor without going over the top, for example, Holiday ornaments, on the water tray with the cookies and chocolates. I decorated it with a couple of Christmas balls.

On their nightstands, a few holiday magazines were placed, like Homes and Garden, Vogue, AD, these were magazines I knew they would be interested in reading.

If you have the chance, make sure the room has a good connection for WIFI, and on top of that, it would be great if they could enjoy a small tv with Netflix and a remote.

I know it is not always possible, but we all love to have a dedicated bathroom for ourselves. I would say that the true dream guest room has a bathroom that is, either ensuite or a bathroom that is close to their bedroom.

This is where you can make their time in your home very enjoyable and relaxing.

A displayed tray was beautifully presented, placed in their bathroom, it consisted of soaps, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizers, toothpaste, new brushes, flannels, body scrub, and mouthwash. I decorated it with a little holiday décor.

Bathroom robes are a nice touch folded on the bed or hung on the back of the bathroom door. I like to buy white as they always look clean and fresh.

I know that with all these simple touches that don't break the bank, it will make your family or friends enjoy their stay to the maximum as I did for Sandra and Victor, so, go, get that guest room ready for the Holidays and have fun doing it.
